Transportation experiment #1:

We walked (some ran and hopped) down the 46 stairs (we're on the third floor), opened and shut this door behind us at 8:50 AM. We bought tickets for the blue bus and stood on the sidewalk waiting for the bus at 9:30 to take us to the beach. The bus was on time, but unfortunately zoomed right past us. Correct information about where the stop was? Not sure. Neil had sorted out enough to know the next one arrived at 11:30. No good. Way too hot to stand around.
We walked a ways and then stopped for coffee. Smart move. Fully caffeinated, Neil developed our next plan. This involved an orange bus stop.
By 10:30 AM we were in a San Martino, a village 10 minutes east of Viterbo, in the pool at the local hotel.
Kids could not have been happier. Eleni went down the slide for two hours and Alex pretended to throw grenades (and use other various weapons of war) at an Italian boy who responded in kind. The two never exchanged names or even spoke a word to each other (except making the sound of machine gun fire) for the hour they played like this. Neil swam and read. I read and swam.
Perfect.
